It was a big day. Indian won the Cricket World Cup 2011. What glorious and proud moment for indians all over the world. I just love this sport. The kind of life, the kind of patriotism each and every sports person have, I used to look for the same kind of life for myself. I can never forget those days, school days .
When i was at school i was the only girl who used to think about these kind of sports, none of the girls were very much interested towards these kind of games and sports. Rather they have their keen interest in activities like dance , drama etc. While sitting in class when i used to see from window where our Sports teacher used to guide boys cricket, volley ball teams, I probably cannot explain how helpless and hopeless i was.
Finally one day i decided to talk to our sports teacher to look for some girls team in different sports and showed him how much interested i was. He said ‘ok’ which was equals to ‘Forget it’. But i used to remind him again and again and finally he called me up one day and told me that a women cricket tournament is going to start and asked me if i am interested. Without a pause of even a second i said YES. I AM. I still remember my sports teacher Manoj Sir. Though we were also having Yogesh Sir with us, but the person who supported me most was Manoj Sir. We decided to look for girls team in our school in hope that at least we will be able to make 12 player team among 1000 students. We circulated a notice in school stating ‘Those who are interested will report to school playground at specific time’.
At the specified time we found around 40 girls who were interested including me. The Selection process gave us the team finally and i was announced as Captain of the team. We used to practice daily but during the practice session i realized that the team is very weak. Some of the girls were even unable to field, unable to catch properly, used to throw ball which cover not even 20 meters of distance
Finally the day arrived , our first match with girls of SMS School. It was scary . We all got scared when we saw at their team. Long looks and somewhat similar to WWE wrestlers . First we had the team line ups and then i introduced my team to the Chief guest at the stadium. Dnt remember about the toss result what started with bowling. I was an all rounder but the role given to me in the team was of a bowler. First over went fine and i was given the second over and guess what i got a wicket “CLEAN BOLD” . Ahh!! What a relief it was, at least we got confidence that we can create some trouble for those scary opponents. Well it was a 15 over match and every bowler was allowed to bowl 3 overs. Me and Vandana (our team member) were the only reliable bowler. I took 3 wicket in my 3 overs but the other team played pretty well to score around 110 runs.
Our batting was very weak and so the result we loose the match. I was also able to make 6 runs with one boundary. But we all were happy and specially i was glad that at least we tried The tournament was very important as it was told to us that this tournament is to shortlist some players who can play at district level. Well we were out of the tournament and again started living school life studies and all. Next day of the tournament i got my picture in newspaper sports page and name too in first para Still have that cutting with me. Awesome feeling.
And again one day Manoj Sir called me and said that we got a letter from organizers of the tournament and they have shortlisted players to play at district level and you are among them. he congratulated me and i was too Out of the World!! I started dreaming of my career and my life in Cricket
Destiny and Hard luck whatever but the day when i have to go to stadium to attend the camp, i lost my grandfather. There was nothing in the mind about my life with Cricket, all vanished with a single moment. After that we got opportunity to play in a school tournament and we lost 2 matches. I scored zero in first and 36 in second match.
On Sports day, Got Player of the year award, Athlete of the year award but i was not knowing that it is the end. After that i never got the chance to play like this ever. I really Miss those days. May be destiny was having something else for me. Cricket Was Not For Me
Anyways what is more important now is We Are World Cup Champions
I just wonder if Women Cricket will also get some concern from the country. Its also equally important.
“GO INDIA GO”!!!
